Why do I need to create a Facebook Invite Friends tab?

So, you have set up your Facebook fanpage and now you want to make it work for you. One suggestion is to create an Invite Friends tab to make sure that everyone who visits your page has a quick and easy way to invite more fans to your page.

Creating a new tab

Creating tabs in Facebook fanpages requires you to add a Static FBML application to your page. What is FBML you ask? FBML is short for Facebook Markup Language. Adding this application to your page allows you to add a box or tab which can display content using standard HTML code or FBML.

Adding a Static FBML application to your Facebook Fanpage

1. Open your page and click edit page

2. At the bottom of the page that opens you will see a box: "More Applications"

Click “Browse More” and search for Static FBML. After clicking on the FBML application select Add to my page. You will be prompted to indicate which page you wish to add the application to.

Making your Invite Friends tab

1. On your Facebook fanpage again select “Edit Page”. Under Applications you will notice a new box has appeared

2. Select “edit” and change the Box Title to Invite Friends.

3. In the box below the title enter the following code

 You will need to replace Infuse Tea with your fanpage name and ensure url = your facebook fanpage's url.

Due to a bug in Facebook, you need to set the "action" parameter to your facebook wall from an external page. There a plenty of ways to create such a link, such as opening http://bit.ly and putting the full url to your page in the box eg: "http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Infuse-Tea/111654275524699?ref=ts". Set the action parameter to the short URL that you get from the bit.ly website.

Click Save Changes.

4. When you return to your fanpage you will need to add the Invite Friends tab to your tabs. Click on the + and add the Invite Friends tab.
