WtvWatcher is a great little program that will automatically convert .wtv files created by windows 7 media center to the old .dvr-ms format used by Windows Vista media center. This can be useful if you are using programs that can edit / play dvr-ms files but cannot handle the new .wtv format.

InstallationJust extract the files somewhere on your hard disk, like c:\Program Files and create a shortcut to WtvWatcher.exe. I am testing out the beat version, so the path to WtvWatcher .exe is "C:\Program Files\WtvWatcher\bin\Debug". Move this shortcut to the startup folder of your start menu so it will run when you login. Click the newly created shortcut to get the program running for the first time.
ConfigurationClick the red TV icon in the system tray, and click the small spanner icon in the top left corner of the WtvWatcher window. Click the "Browse" button (the button with three small dots on it) and select the folder that your computer saves recorded tv into. On my system the path is "C:\Users\Public\Recorded TV" That's it!, with the default settings, the program will scan the folder and convert the .wtv files to .dvr-ms. It will also remove the .wtv files so you don't end up with duplicates. References: http://wtvwatcher.codeplex.com/
